Tribes

The Thames is a major river flowing through Southwestern Ontario inside the lower Great Lakes. Southwest of London lies three Native-Canadian communities inside the Thames River Valley: Chippewa of the Thames First Nation, Oneida Nation of the Thames and Muncee-Delaware Nation. All three have a long and storied history of warfare, peace, civilization and hope. A history that was altered, but never lost, by the French, Dutch and British invasions starting in the 16th century. This is a history of the origins of these noble people.
Their ancient ancestors first began to populate what is now Southwestern Ontario about 12,000 years ago as the glacier from the last great ice age retreated. This is called the Palaeo-Indian Period.
